My Approach

Engineering, Built Together.

I created Hammond BIM Tech to bring practical engineering and emerging technology closer together. I want to work alongside design and construction teams, contributing to real projects through engineering, BIM modelling and digital delivery while continuing to explore how technology can improve the way we work.

BIM, engineering data, programming and artificial intelligence are creating new possibilities for the built environment. I'm interested in identifying the problems worth solving and developing practical tools that address them. By combining project work with independent research and development, I aim to keep learning, question established workflows and contribute to a more connected and capable industry.

My Journey

From Construction to Digital Engineering

My career has taken me from civil engineering studies to major infrastructure projects, international experience and independent software development. Each stage has shaped my interest in how engineering and technology can work better together.

01
2016 — 2019

Engineering Foundations

Liverpool John Moores University

I graduated in 2019 with an upper second-class 2:1 BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering. My degree gave me a strong technical foundation and, just as importantly, sparked a lasting interest in independent research and learning.

Learning Through Practice

United Kingdom · Infrastructure Construction

My years working in the UK gave me a broad professional foundation. From steel-framed residential buildings to major infrastructure, including HS2, I developed practical skills and a wider understanding of the construction industry.

A highlight was contributing to the installation of the survey control network on the Calvert section of HS2. Working with advanced equipment and technology gave me a clearer view of what could be achieved both on site and through digital engineering workflows.

Broadening My Experience

Australia · Major Engineering Projects

While travelling and working across Australia, I contributed to a range of major projects. My experience included work on the Rio Tinto rail network, tunnelling at BHP Goonyella Riverside, offshore dimensional control, and supporting the design of an earthworks and utilities scheme for a gold mine in Western Australia.

Although a brilliant experience this is where I really set my mind on digital construction. Working on mines with some of the most advanced tech in the world but still building from pdfs and schemes that hadnt been federated, checked and full of clashes and mistakes. Also seeing the data we were throwing away started me thinkinng there must have be a better way to do things.

Exploring a Different Direction

Asia · Introduction to Software Engineering

After two years travelling and working in Australia, I took a sabbatical and moved to Southeast Asia. During this time, I worked on a range of projects, including websites for small businesses. In 2026, I decided to bring my software experience and engineering background together by establishing Hammond BIM Tech.

Bringing Engineering & Technology Together

Hammond BIM Tech

My goal for Hammond BIM Tech is to provide flexible support to engineering teams around the world, from BIM modelling, drafting and detailing to custom software and data tools. I would welcome opportunities to collaborate with established design teams, while also working closely with construction teams to develop models and tools that make the benefits of BIM and digital construction more accessible on site.

Artificial intelligence is also changing how we work. I want to explore its practical benefits while understanding its limitations and the implications for information security. I also hope to help technical and non-technical teams make informed decisions about where and how AI should be used.

Areas of Interest

Engineering, Data & Digital Construction

I'm interested in the intersection of engineering and technology, from creating accurate digital models to developing tools that make engineering information more accessible and useful. These are the areas I want to contribute to through project work, collaboration and independent development.

01 MODEL CREATION
STRUCTURES / BIM

Model Creation & Drafting

My initial focus is reinforced concrete structures, with particular attention to the accurate representation of reinforcement. I would welcome opportunities to support experienced design teams on a freelance basis while continuing to develop my understanding of design processes and best practice. I also want to help construction teams prepare for delivery through constructability-focused models and digital information that make requirements clearer before work begins, reducing avoidable delays and issues discovered on site.

Over time, I aim to extend this work into civil infrastructure, earthworks and drainage, bringing different engineering disciplines together in coordinated digital environments.

AREAS OF WORK
  • Structural BIM modelling
  • Revit modelling & drafting
  • Technical documentation
  • Civil & drainage modelling
  • Information Models
  • constructability
02 PROGRAMMING
DATA / AUTOMATION

Programming & Automation

I'm particularly interested in using Python's data tools and IfcOpenShell to build practical applications for construction teams, making model information easier to access and use. I'm also exploring ways to connect existing tools, such as Excel and project management systems, with BIM models and their underlying data.

I'm also exploring custom Revit scripts and tools that can automate repetitive tasks, improve consistency and reduce time spent on manual processes.

AREAS OF WORK
  • Python scripting
  • IFC data extraction & processing
  • Revit scripts & automation
  • Engineering data tools
03 INFORMATION
BIM / ISO 19650

BIM & Information Management

I'm interested in the data infrastructure that supports BIM and information management: from developing databases and integrations for existing common data environments (CDEs) to building bespoke data-management tools that fit the workflows of individual organisations.

I'm also interested in helping trade and construction teams understand how BIM and digital construction can support their work, particularly during pre-construction planning, when coordination issues can be identified before they become problems on site.

AREAS OF INTEREST
  • BIM & information management
  • Model data and classification
  • Digital coordination workflows
  • Engineering automation & AI
  • Database Engineering
  • BIM Education
